Maelstrom

Production and Filming
These production photographs, from Vere Lorrimer's papers, came up for sale on e-Bay in early 2018 and I am indebted to my good friend Werner Schmitz from the excellent MEDIA Gems Website for these scans.

Website visitor Menna Trinder-Widdess unearthed a great little video on Youtube by a fan in Norway which includes lots of production shots and plans of the sets, with autographs of the cast and crew, collected in the early 1990s.

Not wishing to spoil anything but as vistors to the website must know the climax to the series was the fiery destruction of the island house.

Series designer, Bob Smart, had constructed 'the house' out of wood clad in synthetic stone specially flown over on rolls from England. The resulting 'look' was very effective and, since it was just a BBC 'prop',when it came to filming the climactic fire there was no need for trick photography: they literally burnt the house down.
