The soundtrack for the series, by Greek composer Yannis Markopoulos became a phenomenon in its own right. Try searching the net for "Who Pays The Ferryman?" and you'll get dozens of references - virtually all of them to the music.

Markopoulos was born in Heraklion, Crete, on 18 March 1939. Both his mother, from the town of Sfakia, and his father, from Ierapetra, were descendants of old Cretan families. A few years back Markopoulos' had his own website on which he told something of how he came to get involved with the series.

Copies of both the LP and the single come up from time to time on e-bay for a couple of pounds.
